Concurrent enrollment allows high school students to take college-level coursework while earning both high school and college credit. These courses give students valuable exposure to the expectations of higher education, while helping them build confidence, strengthen academic skills, explore career interests, and make progress toward a college degree, certification, or workforce credential before graduating from high school.
“This is exactly the kind of investment that can make a lasting difference for students and families,” said Roger Ricketts, Executive Director of the Keokuk Area Community Foundation and North Lee Community Foundation. “By helping students access college-level coursework while still in high school, we are supporting their future success, whether they choose to continue their education, enter the workforce, or pursue career training after graduation.”

The project also supports the Fort Madison Community School District’s ongoing commitment to college and career readiness, while strengthening its partnership with Southeastern Community College and aligning educational opportunities with regional workforce needs.

Funding for the grant comes from the Sandrock Fund for Lee County, which was established through the generosity of Dr. Austin Sandrock and Carole Wallis-Sandrock. Their legacy continues to support meaningful programs and projects that benefit Lee County communities.
