Community foundations create opportunities for Iowa counties to direct philanthropic resources locally. The Keokuk Area Community Foundation supports the  foundations in Des Moines County and North Lee County  which have embraced the community foundation model as a vehicle for donors to invest in the communities they call home.
With affiliate endowment funds, these communities are growing strong, sustainable sources of income for schools, churches, healthcare centers and other local needs.

The Community Foundation of Des Moines County was established to receive charitable gifts from donors to establish permanent endowments for the benefit of Des Moines  County, Iowa. The Keokuk Area  Community Foundation supports the efforts of Washington County to build and administer endowments.

Every year, the Community Foundation of Des Moines awards grants to Des Moines County through the Margaret Hansen Impact Fund. Over $500,000.00 has been awarded to nonprofits in Des Moines County through the Margaret Hansen Impact Fund.
